History

The Science & Technology Park is an effective instrument of business and employment development in the field of high-technologies. The idea of a science & technology park in Ostrava came in 1994 from the VŠB - Technical University Ostrava and the City of Ostrava. The promoters of The Science & Technology Park Ostrava are The City of Ostrava, the Regional Development Agency Ostrava, the VŠB- Technical University Ostrava, the Ostrava University and the Silesian University in Opava.

The project was seen as international from the very beginning. The pre-investment phase of the project was financed by EU funds and the project design was executed by a consortium of firms - IDI Ireland and DHV CR (Ostrava branch). Co-ordination and management of the project was entrusted to the Regional Development Agency Ostrava who secured the finances too. According to the feasibility study conclusions, the form of multi-pole concept with core centre and satellite units was proposed and realised. The Core Centre of the Science & Technology Park is situated into green field area of about 100.000m2 next to the University Campus of VŠB - Technical University Ostrava. The Satellite Units - Centres of Excellence are located in universities and scientific institutes in the region.

The Science & Technology Park was built up in stages. The company was officially registered on 19th August 1997. In 1999 The Science & Technology Park gained the support from EU PHARE programme and this programme helped to develop the infrastructure around the Park.

In 2001, the first project, Ingelectric (now Ingeteam) building was completed. In October 2003 the second project was implemented and the multi-tenant building PIANO was opened (construction was financed from the public funds). This multi-tenant building offers a rental about 2.500 m2 of office spaces and it is also an administrative and operating centre of the Park. You can also find laboratories, meeting rooms, lecture hall and even the restaurant, squash courts and spinning centre here.

In 2006, second building called TANDEM (2900 m2) was finished, and company Elcom a. s. started to build their own Technological centre. In January 2007 this Technological centre was opened. The total area of the premises is about 10.000 m2 (including Ingeteam and Elcom buildings) in March 2007 and is nearly fully accupied.
